SAN FRANCISCO — February 5, 2002 — CustomWeather, the leading supplier of syndicated custom weather data, announced today the availability of its syndicated weather services via XML Web Query (http) and hosted SMS services. CustomWeather is the first and only weather company to offer weather forecasting data to clients in these highly sought-after formats, reinforcing its commitment to providing cutting-edge weather solutions. CustomWeather has designed its http query system with location-based services in mind so that weather data can be requested by coordinates, city names, city identifiers, or postal codes for locations all around the world. Not only can clients access traditional weather products via the query system, but CustomWeather has also made weather novelty items, such as its airport delay forecast, available via XML query. According to Geoff Flint, CEO of CustomWeather, “The entire query system was built with the software developer in mind. We wanted to create a system that made it extremely easy for developers to integrate our weather data with their content.” The further addition of short message services (SMS) means that CustomWeather can now host messages in-house through its own gateway for nearly all of its products in any language. Don’t expect to find CustomWeather advertising a SMS number, though. “We focus exclusively on the B2B market, so we help our clients offer their own SMS weather services, with CustomWeather providing the backbone,” said Jennifer Flint, Senior VP of CustomWeather. Supporting these desirable technologies complements CustomWeather’s vast collection of weather forecasts, maps and reports that are compiled for over 58,000 cities worldwide. To further its global focus, CustomWeather’s weather data is already available in 9 languages in addition to English, with more being added as clients request them. |
